Over 1.5395 million kilogrammes of hilsha fish worth of US$ 9.237 million have been exported to India through Benapole land port during the last three months.

Over Tk 1.0 billion of hilsha are exported to India through Benapole land port every year. July-October is the pick season of hilsha export.

It is expected that huge hilsha will be netted in the coastal area this year as fishing of jhatka had been prohibited by the government.

Government has decided to export hilsha at $6.00 per kg this year which was $ 4.00 per kg last year.

Assistant Commissioner of Benapole Customs House Azizul Islam said that 7/8 trucks of hilsha are exported to India through this port every day, whose size ranges between 800 grammes and 1000 grammes.

Customs House sources said that from July 08 to October 13 the country exported 1,539,500 kilogrammes hilsha through Benapole land port and earned $ 9,237,000.

Source also said that 4,495 tonnes of hilsha in 2005-2006 financial year and 3,414 tonnes of hilsha in 2006-2007 were exported to India through this port.
