Bangladesh Ship Building Industry

Ocean going ship building industry may play a vital role in the expanding worldwide maritime trade and boost the economy of the country. The industry is already attracting foreign buyers and investors.

This was observed by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Chittagong Director Md Golam Mostafa while addressing the participants at the seminar on 'Exploration of New Products for Export with Special Reference to Ship Building' arranged under the auspices of EPB Chittagong at its conference room Sunday.

Mr Mostafa, in his address said Bangladesh has procured a sizeable portion of the ship building business and international standard vessels are now being built here.

The country is now receiving orders from different countries for building ultra modern vessels.

Bangladesh has already signed agreements with two top ranking ship building companies of Germany and Denmark and a few more European countries have expressed their desire to procure Bangladeshi built vessels, he said.

EPB director said if such an immense scope was well-utilised it would undoubtedly bring about a positive change in the economy of the country.

EPB Dhaka Director M Omar Faruque was present at the seminar as resource person while Western Marine Shipyard Ltd Managing Director Md Shakhawat Hossain, Mongla Engineering and Ship Repairs Managing Director Syed Monzur Hossain and 80 representatives of different organisations attended the function.
